Science Fiction: HISTORY“
Know more about the history of science fiction
If one looks at the definition of science fiction, it is mainly based upon the knowledge of historical events past, present, and how a little bit of technological and scientific knowledge can be used upon them to manipulate events and knowledge into a credible story. If you go back into the realms of mythology, the Arabian night’s tales had stories of princes who had the habit of jumping on the backs of horses who could start to fly by the twisting of their ears.
One could almost imagine the twisting of the gear and the accelerator. In the same manner, Voltaire wrote about his friend from Jupiter, Micromegas, in the 17th-century. After Gulliver's travels came Voyage to the moon and 20,000 leagues under the sea, by Jules Verne.
This fiction was based mostly upon scientific principles, which could be assimilated and utilised in a constructive manner, to produce machines that worked effectively and efficiently. Isaac Asimov began writing science fiction stories, which spoke about the robots using the law of robotics, to serve humanity. We find the same Robots, doing work for us today in the shape of mechanical machines, but they do not have a human physiognomy.
The science fiction novel, also managed to make its presence felt in the genre of horror, which started with Frankenstein. Edgar Allen Poe talked about a journey to the moon, but it was only with the advent of technological wonders like telegraph, transportation, like the aeroplane and the car, that H.G. Wells began writing about true scientific and technological development in the future. The War of the worlds was one such example, and its dramatisation by Orson Wells upon the radio had many people believing that the Martians had really attacked the world! Nowadays, science fiction writers include Ray Bradbury, Asimov, Arthur C. Clarke and Damon Knight.
