“Science Fiction: WORLDWIDE”
Know more about science fiction worldwide

Jonathan Swift was the first person to write about an imaginary voyage to different places, with the different peoples, but that was more of a satire than science fiction.  Jules Verne started the tradition of writing about journeys to different worlds, with the help of spacecraft, balloons and even underwater vehicles.  This was the forerunner to science fiction, and he did not know that a couple of decades later, Captain Nemo's Nautilus would take the shape of submarines in the First World War.

He could not have imagined that the same sort of principles, which he used to propel a spacecraft, would take a spacecraft to the moon, nearly half a century later.  Nostradamus’ predictions also had a touch of science fiction, especially when he spoke about boxes that had pictures upon them, and vehicles that flew.  But if Michelangelo could draw the design of a flying machine- which looks amazingly like the Wright brothers' machine, Kitty Hawk- which would be made into a helicopter, six centuries later, nobody should be surprised that science fiction has the habit of coming true.

Science fiction is a genre, which is based upon an alternate social system, which might be based in the future or in alternative time periods.  Science fiction is also set in the historical past, which contradicts the real historical and archaeological records.  One of the requirements of science fiction is that it is going to involve Space travel, where brave men in their flying machines go on voyages to those places where no man has ever gone before.

Their job is to discover new worlds and fight aliens, so that we can have plenty of excitement and entertainment living their lives vicariously.  Science fiction has also going to consist of stories that are made up of principles, which are going to contradict the well formulated laws of science and nature.  Asimov started the trend of Robots and Star Trek took on the challenge of travelling faster than light.  Nowadays, science fiction focuses upon modern scientific technology like nanotechnology.
